Nick Stranks is a Director with The Energy Contract Company and has over 20 years of oil and gas experience, with a technical background in Geology and Petroleum Engineering, complimented with an MBA. Fluent in French, he has worked extensively in North Africa and the Middle East on upstream, midstream and downstream gas development projects. Recent assignments have included:
- Lead commercial role in the development of a wet gas and oil field for an international E&P client in North Africa, including negotiation of off-take arrangements, JOA, financing and related project agreements;
- lead role in negotiating and managing, on behalf of an international African LNG producer, its capacity rights to throughput (cargo receipt, re-gasification and sale gas send-out) in a UK LNG terminal;
- commercial & technical assistance to an international African LNG producer, in establishing a marketing entity and a position in the UK gas market, through the importation of LNG;
- comprehensive study of both Egyptian and Syrian gas supply/demand, pricing and the provision of insight into future market development and business development meetings with state companies, ministries and IOC's concerning exploration and development;
- bid evaluation for the Masharak pipeline project on behalf of a client;
- lead commercial & contractual support to a major international E&P client on the $2bn Gassi Touil integrated gas & LNG development project in Algeria;
- advice to one of Europe’s largest energy companies, bidding on the expansion phase of a UK LNG Import terminal.
Until October 2003, Nick held the position of Gas Commercialisation Manager, Europe, UK, North Africa & Middle East for BHP Billiton Petroleum. Responsible for all gas/gas liquids commercialisation and market development in the region, he played a lead role in evaluating and negotiating gas exploration/development PSCs and was responsible for all long term gas/LNG and hydrocarbon liquid sales (to Europe and domestic markets). Whilst at BHP, Nick led the commercial due diligence for a major acquisition bid for an North African asset, including a commercialisation study for domestic gas and LNG (including detailed domestic gas price review). Additionally, Nick successfully negotiated, in French, the LPG sales and purchase contract underpinning BHP’s US$ 600 million investment in Algeria.
